Intrahepatic Chemotherapy 2 for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

چکیده
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth most common malignancy in the United States (1). Approximately 130,000 new patients will be diagnosed with this cancer in 1999. It is the second leading cause of cancer death, with 55,000 patients expected to die of it. Most patients die of metastatic disease. The vast majority of them have liver as the dominant site of metastases (2). Approximately 30% of patients with metastatic CRC have disease confined to the liver; 10–25% of patients undergoing resection of primary CRC have synchronous hepatic metastases. Potentially curative resection is possible in a minority of patients with hepatic disease. Systemic chemotherapy produces response rates of 15–30%, with median survival of 10–12 mo. It is estimated that 30,000 patients are candidates for regional hepatic therapy each year. Thus, the impact of this malady is substantial. The anatomic and pharmacokinetic advantage of intraarterial chemotherapy in patients with hepatic disease makes it an attractive therapeutic option. Regional hepatic arterial infusion (HAI) chemotherapy can be administered via a hepatic arterial port

“How should we treat older patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer, A Review”
Nearly 50 % of newly diagnosed colorectal cancer, affect people over 70 years of age. Inclusion of older patients in clinical trials has been extremely rare. As a result, there is debate on how to manage these patients because it is still unclear how to balance the therapeutic advantages and toxicities. For patients who do not have comorbid conditions, with performance status (P.S.) 0–1, treatm...
متن کاملMetastatic colorectal cancer: from improved survival to potential cure.
CONTEXT The treatment of colorectal cancer has improved considerably in recent years, but it remains the second commonest cause of cancer deaths in men and women in the United States. Better therapies have resulted in prolonged median survival for patients with metastatic disease and a select number of patients can now be cured. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION We conducted a computerized search using Pu...
متن کاملThe DNA Repair Inhibitor DT01 as a Novel Therapeutic Strategy for Chemosensitization of Colorectal Liver Metastasis.
Metastatic liver disease from colorectal cancer is a significant clinical problem. This is mainly attributed to nonresectable metastases that frequently display low sensitivities to available chemotherapies and develop drug resistance partly via hyperactivation of some DNA repair functions. Combined therapies have shown some disease control; however, there is still a need for more efficient che...
متن کاملA Rare Presentation of Colorectal Cancer with Unusual Progressive Intramuscular and Subcutaneous Metastatic Spread
Colorectal carcinoma is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death, worldwide. Recently, due to the introduction of novel imaging and therapeutic techniques, five-year survival of patients has increased. However, distant metastasis is still expected in half of the patients. Colorectal cancer tends to target the abdominal cavity, liver, lungs, and bones as the common sites of metastas...
متن کاملEnhancement of the efficacy of chemotherapy with oxaliplatin plus 5-fluorouracil by pretreatment with IL-2 subcutaneous immunotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer patients with lymphocytopenia prior to therapy.
The present study was carried out to evaluate the influence of a short-period IL-2 administration on the efficacy of chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer patients with pretreatment lymphocytopenia, which was defined as a lymphocyte count of less than 1500/mm3. The study included 144 consecutive metastatic colorectal cancer patients, who underwent chemotherapy with oxaliplatin plus 5-flu...
